# Setting up your brand

> What the four-step setup wizard asks for, and why each answer changes your results.

Setup runs once, the first time you sign in, and takes about five minutes. It
is worth slowing down for: almost everything it collects feeds directly into
how your visibility is measured. A rushed setup produces confident-looking
numbers about the wrong brand.

You can leave and come back — your progress is saved, and you resume where you
stopped.

## Step 1 — Project details

Enter your **website address**. AI Tracker looks it up and fills in the rest for
you:

<ParamField path="Brand name" type="text">
  How your brand is normally written. This is the primary name matched against
  AI answers, so use the form customers use — not the legal entity name.
</ParamField>

<ParamField path="Location" type="select">
  The market your prompts are asked from. AI answers are geographically
  sensitive: "best accountants" returns an entirely different set of brands in
  the UK than in the US. Pick the market you actually sell into.
</ParamField>

<ParamField path="Language" type="select">
  The language prompts are asked in.
</ParamField>

<ParamField path="Timezone" type="select">
  Used to line up daily results with your reporting days.
</ParamField>

<Tip>
  Check the auto-filled values rather than accepting them. The lookup is good at
  well-known brands and less good at new sites with thin homepages.
</Tip>

## Step 2 — Verify brand profile

AI Tracker reads your site and drafts a profile. Two fields matter more than
they look.

### Business description

A few sentences on what you do, who you serve, and how you position yourself.
This is used as context when generating prompts and when judging whether an
answer is really about you. A vague description produces vague prompts.

### Brand variants

The other names people use for you. This list is what makes detection robust —
an answer that says "we'd recommend Acme" should count even though your brand
is registered as "Acme Analytics Ltd".

Add every form that a real answer might use:

| Add | Example |
| - | - |
| The short name | `Acme` |
| The full name | `Acme Analytics` |
| The legal name if it gets used | `Acme Analytics Ltd` |
| Common misspellings | `Acme Analitics` |
| Former or product names | `MetricLab` |

<Warning>
  Avoid variants that are ordinary words on their own. A variant like `Base` or
  `Compass` will match answers that have nothing to do with you and inflate
  your visibility score. Specific beats generous.
</Warning>

## Step 3 — Review topics

Topics are the themes you want to be found for. AI Tracker suggests a set from
your brand profile; you keep the relevant ones and add anything missing.

* Up to **10 topics**, with **3** a good starting point.
* Each topic gets its own generated prompts, which you can review before
  finishing.
* Topics are how prompts stay organised later, so name them the way your team
  talks about the business.

Start narrow. Three topics you genuinely compete on give you a readable trend
far sooner than ten that dilute your prompt allowance across areas you don't
really sell into.

<Note>
  Topics are not permanent. You can add, rename and retire them at any time from
  the Prompts page.
</Note>

## Step 4 — Add integrations

The final step offers three optional connections:

| Integration | What it adds |
| - | - |
| [Google Analytics 4](/integrations/google-analytics) | Real sessions arriving from AI assistants |
| [Google Search Console](/integrations/search-console) | Clicks, impressions and which of your pages AI answers cite |
| [Bing Webmaster Tools](/integrations/bing-webmaster) | Bing and Copilot performance, plus index health |

Analytics and Search Console can be connected under **different Google
accounts**, which matters if your analytics access and your search access sit
with different people or clients.

Choose **Skip for now** if you don't have access to hand. Nothing else depends
on it — you can connect later from **Integrations**, and connecting backfills
roughly a year of history within minutes.

## After you finish

Finishing takes you to **Prompts**, where your starter prompts are being
generated in the background. The table fills in on its own within a minute or
two.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Read the generated prompts">
    They are a starting point, not an answer. Deactivate any you wouldn't
    actually expect a customer to ask.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add your own">
    The questions your sales team hears are usually better than anything
    generated. See [Managing prompts](/guides/prompts).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Wait for the first run">
    Prompts run once a day, so your first results land within 24 hours.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Adding another brand later

On plans that include more than one website, **Add brand** re-runs this same
wizard for a new campaign. Each brand keeps its own topics, prompts,
integrations and history — see [Campaigns](/guides/campaigns).
