# Bing Webmaster Tools

> Connect Bing for Copilot-inclusive search performance and index health.

Bing is worth connecting for a reason that isn't obvious: **Microsoft Copilot
is built on Bing's index**. If Bing cannot crawl or index your pages, Copilot
cannot cite them — and Bing Webmaster Tools is where you find that out.

## What you need

* A verified site in [Bing Webmaster Tools](https://www.bing.com/webmasters)
  for the brand's domain.
* A Microsoft account with access to it.

<Tip>
  Bing Webmaster Tools can import your verified sites directly from Search
  Console, which is usually faster than verifying from scratch.
</Tip>

## Connect

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Integrations">
    **Brand Hub → Integrations**, with the right brand selected.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Bing Webmaster Tools">
    Sign in with your Microsoft account and approve access.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Pick the site">
    Your verified sites are listed. Only verified sites appear — if the list is
    empty, verification hasn't completed in Bing yet.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What it adds

| Data | Shown as |
| - | - |
| Daily clicks and impressions | Bing and Copilot performance chart |
| Pages in the index, crawl errors, pages blocked by robots rules | Index health cards, with the change against 30 days ago |
| Per-page clicks, impressions and position | Bing columns on "Pages cited in AI answers" |
| Per-query performance | Bing opportunity queries |

<Note>
  **Copilot activity is blended into Bing's totals.** Microsoft does not expose
  a separate Copilot metric, so the chart is Bing and Copilot combined. There
  is no way to split them.
</Note>

## Index health is the point

The three index cards are the ones to watch:

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Pages in index">
    How many of your pages Bing actually holds. A number well below your real
    page count means Copilot can only draw on a fraction of your site.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Crawl errors">
    Pages Bing tried to fetch and couldn't. Each one is a page that can never be
    cited.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Blocked by robots">
    Pages excluded by your own robots rules. Frequently unintentional, and
    frequently the explanation for a whole section of a site being invisible to
    AI assistants.
  </Accordion>
</AccordionGroup>

The **Accessibility** page covers the same ground for the other AI crawlers —
worth reading together when visibility is low despite good content.

## History

Bing's API returns roughly the **last six months**. Because AI Tracker keeps
its own copy from the day you connect, your history here keeps growing past
that limit — so connecting earlier is worth more than it looks.

## Troubleshooting

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="No verified sites found">
    The site isn't verified in Bing Webmaster Tools under this Microsoft
    account. Verify it there first — importing from Search Console is the
    quickest route.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Clicks are much lower than Google">
    Normal. Bing's share is a fraction of Google's in most markets. Watch the
    trend and the index health rather than comparing absolute volumes.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Bing columns are missing from cited pages">
    Those columns only render once Bing is connected for the brand.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Index count dropped suddenly">
    Check crawl errors and blocked-by-robots on the same cards — a robots rule
    change is the usual cause, and it will affect Copilot citations within
    weeks.
  </Accordion>
